Investigating the interactions of microorganisms with their host plants is what fascinates me. I study how fungi can have the capacity to live as endophytes in a tree and support their hosts vitality, while other fungi infect a tree as a pathogen and cause disease symptoms. What are the drivers of fungi to emerge into new ecosystems, which strategies have invasive fungal species to establish in a new area and what can we do to strengthen the defence mechanisms of the trees? In my research, I focus on these questions. |
